In memoriam

Adolfo Soriano Suzara (21 September 1948 ‒ 2 April 2009), known fondly as Addie, Suzie and Doping, was a pillar of the Philippine computer industry, a dedicated nationalist and member of civil society and a beloved husband, father, brother and friend.

A graduate of the Ateneo de Manila University and the Asian Institute of Management, Addie was an assistant vice president at the Construction and Development Corporation of the Philippines before he ventured into Makati Microshop with his brother Raul in 1984.

A veteran of the sector, he was a founding member of the Computer Manufacturers, Distributors and Dealers Association of the Philippines (COMDDAP) and served as its president from 1991-1993. He was also a director of Nexus Technologies, Wordtext Systems, iVantage Corporation, Sterling Bank of Asia, i-Remit Global Remittance and Zhangzhou Stronghold Steelworks among many others.

Known for his strong idealism, Addie was an active member of civil society, chairing the International Visitor Program-Philippines Alumni Foundation and serving as a trustee at the Foundation for Revenue Enhancement, as well as being a consultant for the Bureau of Customs and the Bureau of Internal Revenue. Apart from his many professional and civil commitments over the years, he was also a very hands-on family man, had numerous friends and, above all, has inspired many young professionals to actively participate in the affairs of the nation and to be of service to others.

A passionate, opinionated advocate for many causes, Addie’s humour, charm and intelligence are deeply missed among those who were fortunate enough to have spent time with him. It is our hope that the work of the foundation, which has only just begun, will ensure that his legacy will be carried forward for generations to come.
